About our director

Sandy has been Cascade Harmony's director since 2006. In 2012, she became a Master Director by directing the chorus to the 600 point level at an a cappella competition.

Sandy says there was nothing other than music that she ever wanted to do. Singing and music have always been an important part of her life and finally, she has found a way to put her degree in music education to good use.

In 1988 she and her then-new husband left her native New York to return to his hometown - Portland. Sandy knew nothing about Sweet Adelines, but she went to a rehearsal and immediately fell in love with the music and the director, who was "funny and warm and smart about music" (hmmm, that sounds like Sandy). Sandy says, "Since the day I walked in the door, there hasn't been a day I haven't been involved in the organization. Sweet Adelines is an integral part of who I am."

At regional competitions, Sandy led Cascade Harmony Chorus to its first-ever championship in its history, earning Sandy the Master Director status in this first place win. Each year, Cascade Harmony participates in the Regional Competition and Convention which takes place in various locations around the Pacific Northwest.

Sandy has sung with several first place quartets, recently won first place in a mixed voice quartet and continues to work at her singing and performing skills as well as directing, coaching and learning.

The rehearsals are high-energy, fast-paced and filled with vocal production techniques, tools to help singers improve their skills and a wide repertoire of songs representing a variety of musical genres.

Her position as a marketing director in the software industry continues to help her bring professional, fun and effective skills to the leadership of Cascade Harmony Chorus.
